ADV PE

General Phys Ed II

Adventure PE. This course takes the student off campus to experience rock climbing, orienteering, camping trips, survival training, boxing, serving others through hard work and a host of other adventures.

ALG TRIG Alg Trig Pre Calculus (Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry) provides students with foundation necessary to be successful in a higher level math course . It is a combination of advanced algebra, trigonometry, elementary analysis, and analytical geometry.

ALGEBRA I

Algebra I

Algebra I is designed to introduce students to the concepts of Algebra. The student will begin by learning the language of Algebra.

ALGEBRA II

Algebra II

Algebra II emphasizes functions. Students enrolled in Algebra II enter after taking Geometry, but need a solid understanding of the concepts taught in Algebra I to succeed.

AM GOVERN American Government This course focuses on the U.S. Constitution and the workings of the political system in America. There is also an introduction and overview of the U.S. economic system and various economic concepts.

American Lit/Comp 11th

This course studies American Literature from a historical perspective in coordination with the American history class.

ANATOMY

Human Anatomy

This course allows students to explore the human organism from cellular level physiology to the advanced anatomical makeup. Students explore the histology of tissues, examine dissected organisms and study human muscles and bones.

AP ART 2D

AP Art 2-D Design

This portfolio provides use of the camera and computer along with other traditional drawing techniques. The student will push for range but also develop a concentrated area of study. Portfolio and faculty approval is required.

AP ART 3D

AP Art 3-D Portfolio

Encourages exploration and skill within the study of sculpture and ceramics. This course promotes expanding the range within the three dimensional form while encouraging the focus of selected study. Portfolio and faculty approval is required.

AP ART DRAW AP Drawing Portfolio Designed by the College Board to address a very broad interpretation of drawing and media issues. This course also directs the student through a specific thesis study. Portfolio and faculty approval is required.

AP CALC AB

AP Calculus AB

AP Calculus is the most advanced course on the college prep ladder. Only students who take Algebra I in 8th grade and show an exceptional understanding of trigonometry and functions should be considered for AP Calculus.

AP CHEM AP Chemstry The AP course is intended to be the equal to a general chemistry course that would be taken during a student’s first year in college. The course requires that a student has already successfully completed an introductory high school level chemistry class.

AP Gov/Pol

This college level course focuses on the U.S. Constitution and the workings of the political system in America . Students are given information on citizenship and encouraged to become responsible participants in the American political system.

AP Lang/Comp 11th

Students will be provided with experiences and information necessary to complete the Advanced Placement English exam. Some of the topics covered are syntax, elements of fiction, reading of classic literature, vocabulary, and effective writing.

AP Lit/Comp 12th

This program serves as a culmination of the honors program by providing a college level class in the senior year and by using the College Board assessment for potential course credit.

AP PHYSICS

AP Physics B

This course is designed to be equivalent to a college level physics courses. Topics for the course include Newtonian mechanics, fluid dynamics, waves and optics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, and nuclear physics.

AP US HIST AP US History This is a rigorous college level course designed to provide students with the analytic skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in United States history.

AP World History

This course is a survey of European history from the Middle Ages to the present. Students examine the political, economic, religious, social, intellectual, and artistic foundations of Europe .

ART FOUND

V Art/Draw Paint I

This course serves as a prerequisite to all upper level art courses. A basic overview of art appreciation and 2D/3D designs are explored by applying art elements and principles to concepts of composition, drawing, painting, collage, & perspective.

BAND

Band

A growing ensemble that triples as a Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Drum Line. This ensemble will participate at festival each year as well as perform Christmas and Spring concerts.

BIBLE 10

Bible 10

In "Cross Relationships" students will study how having a proper vertical relationship with the Lord effects our horizontal relationships with others. Each student will be challenged to honestly evaluate themselves and to become the "impacter".

BIBLE 11

Bible 11

11th Grade Bible will give the student a sense of responsibility and obligation to the gospel of Jesus Christ. The focus of study is to lead the student into a mindset of service to others and stewardship over what God has given them.

BIBLE 12

Bible 12

Students will examine current culture through the perspective of a secular and Christian worldview. Optionally, students may spend the second semester developing, planning, and executing a project that impacts the world for Jesus Christ.

9th Grade Bible will have gender specific classes that will each go through Experiencing God, a gender-based study such as Every Young Man's Battle , and a study of the book of John.

BIOLOGY

Biology

This course will give students an opportunity to explore the intricacies of nature and the organisms that exist within it. Students will explore the scientific method, biochemistry, heredity, genetics, and the evolution debate.

CALCULUS

Calculus

Calculus is a course that emphasizes rates of change. The course is broken down into four parts: a review of functions, limits and continuity, derivatives, and antiderivatives with the majority of the content covering derivatives and antiderivatives.

CHAM SING

Chamber Singers

Chamber Singers is an auditioned vocal ensemble consisting of advanced choral singers that sing primarily a cappella works from all styles, genres and eras. Prerequisite of one year in Chorale before being able to audition and participate in Chambers.

CHEMISTRY

Chemistry

This course explores the behavior of matter and its properties. Students will understand the periodic tables, nomenclature, stoichiometry, balancing equations, oxidation-reduction, molarity and normality.

CHORUS

Chorus

Students become proficient singers and musicians through learning the foundations of proper vocal technique, sight-reading and music theory. Students perform in a minimum of two concerts a year in addition to preparing for the spring music festival.

COMPANY

Company

This is an audition only company of actors that undoubtedly demonstrate an aptitude in theater as well as a willingness to share their theatrical skills with the community. This group will also compete in theatrical festivals. Auditions required.

COMPUTER

Computer Applications

Students will review Windows skills such as mouse usage, file formats, navigating with Explorer, files, folders, Save versus Save As, Copy/Cut/Paste functions. Students will delve into Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel,and Adobe Acrobat.

DEBATE

SP/Forensics II

Debate is open to all grades and functions as an introduction to argumentation and debate. It is a performance class where the emphasis is on learning how to research, present, attack, and defend arguments

DRAW PAINT

Drawing and Painting I / II

This is an introduction to fundamental principles of painting, drawing, methods & materials. A focus is given to developing perceptual abilities, sensitivity and understanding of color, & compositional ideas. (A prerequisite of foundations is required).

ECONOMICS Econ/Bus/Free Ent This course provides the basic foundation for the study of economics and includes a broad overview of microeconomic and macroeconomic principles as well as personal finance.
ENG LIT/COMP English Lit/Comp 12th This final year of English presents the literature orgranized by themes, with the core works of British literature in historical sequence coupled with literature of the world and minorities, most of which are included in anthology.

Euclidean geom

Geometry provides students with a way to link their perceptions of the real world with the mathematics that allows them to solve a variety of problems they will encounter in other disciplines and in their everyday lives.

This course encompasses cellular morphology and physiology, including cellular respiration, fermentation and photosynthesis, cell reproduction and genetics.

This course is designed to prepare students for college-level classes through a detailed understanding of the interaction of matter and energy. Concepts will be illustrated with practical applications as well as the use of scientific methodology.

HON WLD LIT Hon World Literature 10th This challenging course focuses on world literature from a historical perspective, coordinating with the World History 10 class. Each literature unit is presented from a humanities perspective, including appreciation of various art forms.
LIFE SPORTS Intro Lifetime Sports This course encourages the student to see the importance of being physically active. Students are introduced to a variety of activities that will encourage them in a lifetime of healthy living.

Literature and Composition offers a two-pronged focus on reading and writing. Students examine various genres of literature.

Nutrition and Wellness

This course teaches students that whether they work out at the health club, compete with a varsity team, or have a busy life, they can nourish themself with a diet that supports good health and high energy.

PHOTO I

Vis Arts/Photo I

Semester course covering the history of photography, elements/ principles of art as applied to photography, and creative compositional concerns. Camera and a $30 lab fee required. An elective class not to satisfy the fine art credit.

Vis Arts/Photo II

Semester course providing students with the opportunity to choose subject matter to explore while techniques are determined by the teacher. Assignments range from self-portrait to montage images. An elective class not to satisfy the fine art credit.

PHY SCIENCE

Physical Science

This course is designed to assist students in general science concepts with a major emphasis on chemistry and physics. Topics include atomic structure, the periodic table, bonding, formula writing, chemical equations, acids, bases, motion, energy, etc.

Physics

This course provides an awareness of the mechanics and dynamics of objects in motion. Students will have an opportunity to explore force, momentum, electricity, specific heat capacity, work, power, optics, and sound.

POTTERY

V Art/Cer/Pott I

Develops basic sculpture skills using subtractive, additive and assemblage methods. An intro to clay is taught with a focus on hand building techniques and demo/ intro to the wheel. (A prerequisite of foundations is required).

SAT PREP

SAT Prep

SAT Preparation is a semester-long elective course offered to help high school students prepare to take the SAT. The 1st Q of this course will focus on the Writing and Critical Reading sections of the test; the 2nd Q will focus on Math section.

SIC AIDE

SIC aids assist in the Student Information Center . This course is only open to seniors.

SPANISH I

Spanish I

In first year Spanish, students will attain proficiency in the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They will be introduced to cultural and grammatical concepts that make learning a language a meaningful activity.

Spanish II

In Spanish II, students will be required to use more Spanish, and much of the classroom instruction will be in Spanish. Students will continue to attain proficiency in the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

SPANISH III

Spanish III

Spanish III provides opportunities for students to continue to develop their ability to listen, the ability to understand fluent Spanish, and to correctly pronounce words. In addition they will practice speed, grammatical structures, and gestures.

SPANISH IV

Spanish IV

Spanish IV provides students the opportunity to enhance speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. This course focuses on literature and the students’ ability to comprehend the written target language.

SPEECH

Oral/Written Comm

This one semester class is required for graduation. The students learn how to communicate more effectively as an individual and before a group, how to use a variety of speech types, debate, and improve their skills in other forms of communication.

SPORTS MED Prn Ath Trg/Sp Med This course will provide the students with a systematic approach to carry out orthopedic assessment of injuries in the lower and upper extremities along with basic anatomy and physiology. This course is sometimes referred to as Sports Medicine.

STATISTICS

Statistics

Statistics prepares the college bound student interested in the fields of business, liberal arts, and social sciences. Statistical methods are used in almost all fields of study at the college level.

Support Skills

Eligible students receive academic tutorial assistance for concept or skill attainment, learn compensatory strategies for note taking, test preparation, study skills, and organization, as well as identify technologies to improve performance.

Teacher aides primarily assist elementary teachers and parapros. This course is only open to seniors.

THEATER I

Dram Art/Mus Th I

Fundamentals of acting and stagecraft. This is currently a performance-based class with emphasis on movement, voice, improvisation, scene work, stage combat and musical theatre. You must audition to enroll in this class.

US HISTORY

US History

This course surveys the major events, ideas, institutions, and personalities that have influenced American political, economic, social, and cultural history from 1450 to the present day. Emphasis is placed on America's unique Christian heritage.

World History

This course is a survey of European History and its interaction with other cultures from the 14th century to the present.

WLD LIT/COM

World Lit/Comp 10th

English 10 follows a historical sequence in coordination with History 10. The world literature focus begins at the close of the medieval period and continues to recent literature with representative selections from the major eras presented in anthology.

A full weightlifting program designed for all sports and personal fitness.

YEARBOOK

Yearbook

This elective class is available by application and approval upon meeting scholastic and character standards. The purpose of the class is to create the school yearbook and involves meeting deadlines, managing budget, and preparing yearbooks.
