The Lady War Eagles Varsity Softball team opened the season with strong wins over Providence and Paideia. The team played errorless ball and senior, Morgan McWilliams, had 2 RBI’s in a last inning comeback to defeat Providence 3-2. Against Paideia, Junior , Ginny Hearn, recorded 7 strike-outs as the Lady War Eagles trampled over the Pythons 16-1. Despite playing an outstanding defensive game, Landmark came up short against region rival, Strong Rock, and lost 2-0. The Lady War Eagles have the complete package this year in both offensive and defensive strength. All the girls play hard as a team and give their best efforts both at practice and during our games. As we go into September, we plan to increase our wins and head into the post season.
The month of August saw the War Eagles Varsity Football team win their first 2 games and finish the month with a 2-0 record. The young team is averaging scoring 28 points a game on offense and only giving up 2 touchdowns a game on defense. SR RB Darius Smith is leading the team in rushing at this point and SO QB Stockton McGuire is leading the offense well while scoring multiple touchdowns on the ground as well as passing. JR WR Sam Dobbs is the leading receiver for the War Eagles through the first two games. Defensively the Inside Linebackers SR Will Higbie and JR Titus Creamer are leading the young defense early in the season while SR DB Nolan Bryant, FR DB Lofton Tidwell and FR DB D.J. Brown all have interceptions so far this season. JR DL Will Yancey and JR DL Drew McMurrain are leading the way on the defensive line with sacks and tackles for loss.
Middle School Volleyball
The Middle School A Volleyball Team had a slow start, but we are in the swing of things now with a record of 3 match wins and 2 losses. We beat Macon's B team and Woodward. We took Westminster to 3 games and losing with a score of 24-26. We also beat St. George at our first home match of the season. Callie Wilde is doing a great job serving and setting. Mary Nichols Lollis has stepped up to the plate to learn a new position while Ellin Richardson is out for 6 weeks due to a shoulder injury. Carrington Terrell has come alive with her blocking skills! I'm proud of all my girls for their hard work and improvement from the start of the season
Middle School Softball
The Middle School softball team is 1-2. The MS softball team opened the year with tough losses to both ELCA and Strong Rock. However, they made a very strong comeback with an excellent 9-4 victory over Renfroe. The MS softball team is working hard and making improvements everyday. They play Strong Rock again on Thursday, Sept 5, and will be in a tournament at Renfroe on Sat, Sept 7. Come see them at their next home game against Whitefield on Tues, Sept. 10.
Middle School, JV and Varsity Cross Country
The Landmark Cross Country team has been working hard and making progress on reaching their full potential. Despite a few injuries, our Varsity Girls’ team placed first at the first meet of our season. The MS Girls’ team also placed first at that same meet. Kathryn Foreman got first place at both of our first two meets, and Nicole Fegans got second place at both of them. We only have 8 Varsity Boys this year, although they have been training hard, and are working at becoming a strong competitor at our upcoming meets. Our JV Boys’ team is fairly young. They have great potential to improve by the end of season. We are hosting our 2nd Annual Landmark Cross Country Invitational on August 31st. All athletes and parents have been working hard to make sure the meet sets a high standard, as well as gives an accurate example of how Landmark does everything to honor the Lord with greatness. We have a total of 10 Varsity meets scheduled for this season, and all will be finished by early November.
