On Thursday May, 8, Pam Cornelison's Fairburn K4 class enjoyed the beautiful spring weather as they took a walking field trip to visit the Fairburn Post Office. The students were able to tour the back area of the Post Office where the mail is sorted and put in the boxes for delivery. Each student mailed a letter to a classmate and learned about how the post office works.

The elementary group class photos are available online.  If you would like to order additional copies visit www.snooga.com and click the link on the right side of the page.

The Fairburn first grade classes have worked hard this year to raise funds for their service project which helps needy families in other countries.  By earning extra money in many ways, the first graders raised over $900 and were able to purchase one cow, two goats, and many ducks and chicks from the Heifer International Organization.  This is an organization whose goal is to help end world hunger and poverty through self-reliance & sustainability. Way to go, 1st grade!

To help them prepare for 5th grade band, 4th graders have spent the year in Mrs. Hill’s music class learning to play the soprano recorder. They have been using a curriculum called “Recorder Karate,” which allows them to earn colored “belts” as they progress. The belts are colored pieces of string they tie onto the ends of their instruments. Students who earned the coveted “Black Belt” played “Amazing Grace” and Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” in chapel last week. Here are the names of this year’s “Black Belt” recorder virtuosos:

Mrs. Gunter’s class:  Nathan Burdette, Zachary Carter, AnnaLisa Chavez, Isaac Dobson, Peter Farrell, Jordan Holt, Julia Hoover, Mason Mahaffey, Nola Richardson, Libby Rogers

Mrs. Coley’s class:  Camden Cusumano, Erin Landry, Jacob LeBeau, Chloe Miller, Phillip Patterson,  Austin Taylor, Wesley Vineyard, Michaela Weaver

Mrs. Cusumano’s class:  Charles Austin, Jessie Bowers, Joshua Cobb, Ben Ellison, Katherine Gravitt, Collin Greer, Tanner Johnson, Stephani Kimsey, Andrew Sheffield, Zachary Stone, Kaylyn Walters

Parents, friends and relatives filed into the Landmark Art Gallery (cafeteria) on May 6 to view the 2008 AP Senior Exit Show. The place was abuzz as artists gave commentary about their latest series.  All six AP students: Jen Camp, LaRae Davenport, Cat Perkins, Ashley Ryckeley, Durrell Smith and Louis Vivian relished in their last Landmark art show as they celebrated with delicious food and a fabulous crowd. From pen and ink to egg crates, the collection was a cornucopia of style and media. Enjoy these photos

Coaches Corner

The varsity boys track team performed great at the Region Meet and carried this over into the State Meet May 8 - 10 in Jefferson, GA. with an outstanding performance that surpassed many others.   Looking back at the beginning of the season, with 19 boys on board; 7 returning, 9 new and 3 that missed last year, we had no idea what to expect.  Only 3 had state meet experience from last year.  This year only 8 young men qualified for State.  After the dust had settled and making a fast closing statement, LCS had accumulated 68 points over Athens Christian with 59, OLM with 53, and Wilkinson County with 50.  What an outstanding job by our team!  We had 6 athletes who scored our points (results below). Check out these great photos of the meet
