  • Art Shop

    Instructor: Ms. Tina Eden
    Sessions: 4 classes per session/$140 per session
    Grades: 2nd through 8th
    Days: Tuesdays or Wednesdays

    This workshop for the serious art student will focus on implementing the elements and principles of design through weekly, in-depth study. Young artists will be experimenting with drawing, painting, mixed media, styles, and techniques as they take pride in completing works of art.

  • Chess

    Instructor: Kid Chess Coaches
     FREE Demonstration Sessions: January 28-29
    Grades: 1st-4th (early session), 5th-8th

    Time: 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. / 4:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. 
     
    Kid Chess is a 21 year-old chess instructional company for kids.  Our main focus is on keeping the game fun for children while teaching them lessons that are important in life such as sportsmanship, problem solving, critical thinking, concentration, patience, attention span and other skills.  Participation in chess has been shown to increase test scores in reading and math.

    During these 45-minute free demonstration sessions, students will:
    • Learn how the chess pieces move
    • Be introduced to the basic strategies and concepts of the game
    • Play each other and our coaches

  • Club Invention

    Instructor: Ms. Michele Jackson
    Sessions: 8 classes per module/$160 per module 
     
    Grades: 1st through 3rd (Group A)
    Days/Time: Mondays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    Grades: 4th through 5th (Group B)
    Days/Times: Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
     
    Module 3: Flight Sight
    Session: January 13 – March 10
    Flight Sight™ Participants explore how inventions in flight have made it possible to see the world from different perspectives. They experiment with devices that may help them jump higher, create three-dimensional maps, design and fly huge paper airplanes, and much more!

    • Explores the ways that invention has enabled flight. • Examines different perspectives to look at Earth formations and create topographical maps. • Investigates Bernoulli’s principle and the concept of flight. • Prompts children to imagine and create cockpits of aircraft that fly in outer space.
     
    Module 4: Trash Island: A Garbage Patch Journey

  • Fiber Arts I

    Instructors: ASC staff & LCS high school leadership

    Sessions: weekly classes/no fee for ASC attendees/registration required/space limited
    Grades: 1st – 8th
    Day: Thursdays
    Time: 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
     
     
    Explore hand-sewing, embroidery, knitting, weaving, needle-felting and more by creating fun, one-of-a-kind fiber arts projects. Each week, students have the opportunity to develop new skills and tackle new challenges with our rotating curriculum of projects. No experience is necessary, and all the supplies and materials are included.

  • Raspberry Pi Coding

    Instuctors: ACS staff & LCS engineering students
     
    Session 1: 5 classes/one-time fee of $60
     
    Grades: 5th – 8th
    Day: Tuesdays
    Time: 3:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
     
     Session 1: January 14 – February 11

    Join the newest after school club! One-time fee will provide each student with their own Raspberry Pi, a microSD card loaded with NOOBS (New Out Of Box Software), and a lesson book with instructions to create their own video games! Club meetings will build and run through the semester with entry/exit points at winter and spring breaks. Get in the know about this globally-popular mini-computer developed by Cambridge University to teach kids how to code! Led by high school engineering students under the supervision of Mr. Kevin Gilbert and Mrs. Becky Rowe.

  • Strings

    Instructor: Ms. Olivia Abernathy
    Session: 1 private lesson & 1 group class/ $65 per week

    Semester commitment is required for the strings program. Instrument rental is available. Students will receive personalized instruction and attend a group ensemble for violin, viola, cello, and bass.
