When you feel like the darkness is pressing in, like the heartache is too much to bear, like the pain will never end - remember that the Lord is sitting in the rocking chair of your life. Sometimes we forget that God does not promise us an easy life, but He promises that He will be right there with us through all of the mess this life can bring.
“As I sat quietly in the rocking chair in the corner of Asher’s room trying to remind him that everything is okay, that I will be right there if he needs anything and that there is nothing to be scared of, I was reminded of the Father’s love for us.
For the past couple of weeks, Asher has been struggling to go to sleep due to fears that have recently arisen, like being scared of the dark and not knowing where Garrison and I are. So the past couple of nights I have sat in his rocking chair, which happens to be situated in such a way that he can’t see me well, but he knows I am there because I speak softly to him and reassure him. When he knows I am there, in the room with him, in the darkness with him, he is able to fall asleep at peace. He knows I am with him and therefore he is no longer scared of the darkness - he knows he is not alone in it. He chooses to no longer focus on the darkness, but focuses instead on the fact that his provider and protector is in the room with him. The darkness has not become any less dark, but he has shifted his focus onto the small “light” that is in the room.
I was reminded that when we get scared, sad, lonely, or overwhelmed it is often so easy to overlook God sitting right there beside us, reassuring us and fighting for us. It is too easy to get consumed with the darkness around us, with our own thoughts and doubts, that we fail to see that through the trial, pain, heartache or suffering, God is sitting with us. He is right there in the struggle encouraging us, strengthening us, comforting us and fighting for us.
When you feel like the darkness is pressing in, like the heartache is too much to bear, like the pain will never end - remember that the Lord is sitting in the rocking chair of your life. He is there when you call, He is there when you cry, He is there when you can’t hear Him or feel Him move. He is quietly and gently reassuring us, comforting us, and strengthening us. Sometimes we may need to adjust our focus in order to see Him more clearly, but no matter your circumstance or situation - He is right there with you. He will never leave you nor forsake you. Sometimes we forget that God does not promise us an easy life, but He promises that He will be right there with us through all of the mess this life can bring.
So be encouraged today to readjust your focus. To clear your vision so that you may be able to rest your eyes upon Jesus in the middle of the trial or fear. As we rest our eyes upon Jesus, everything else begins to fade. As we worship our creator, we are reminded of the reason we were put on this earth, we are reminded of our purpose. To glorify God. In the good times and the bad.”
