Friday, October 30, 2020 Landmark Christian War Eagles football battled it out for the win against host Heritage Hawks, 20-17. With this triumph, Landmark Christian will travel to Whitefield Academy to battle the WolfPack in a Private Region 2 test on Friday, November 6.
Landmark was given 200 tickets for the “visitor” section at Heritage Field. The stadium was masked and packed. The bleachers were cold. Landmark fans bundled up and settled in to join our cheerleaders in cheering the War Eagles to victory against Heritage Hawks for this mid-season, rubber match (Heritage) Homecoming game.
Kamau Hopewell (#36) scored the first touchdown of the game playing in the position of linebacker, Hopewell recovered a fumble and ran for a 50-yard touchdown.
Ryan Ziegler (#34) had 82 yards rushing. Cody Lee (#3) ran the ball for Landmark’s second touchdown. At halftime, the War Eagles were down by one point.
Late in the fourth quarter, it looked like Heritage might have a hold of it but Landmark War Eagles never gave up. The defense held the line, which gave the offense a chance to get back on the field.
With Heritage up and just two minutes left in the game, Henry Jones (#26) ran a post route. The offensive line, led by Cody Lee, drove the ball 65 yards up the field.
With thirty seconds left in the game, Landmark found themselves in a 4th and ten situation. Quarterback, Cody Lee (#3) threw a game-winning touchdown pass to wide receiver, Henry Jones, who scored for a touchdown. And the Landmark fans went wild!
