Christmas looked different this year and many of our holiday traditions were postponed, canceled, or unalike those in the past. One loved tradition impacted at Landmark was Campbell Christmas. Campbell Christmas is founded on a long-standing partnership between Landmark and our neighboring Campbell Elementary School. In a typical year, a Landmark high school student is paired with a Campbell student and given a $100 gift card donated by our Landmark community. Landmark and Campbell students load buses together for a shopping spree at Walmart. It is a joy-filled day and smiles can be seen for miles on the faces of both Landmark and Campbell students.
When it became clear that we were unable to proceed with Campbell Christmas as in the past, the two schools came together to develop a plan ensuring that this impactful tradition continued. Due to the pandemic, the needs were greater than ever at Campbell and we were asked to provide for more students than in the past. Believing that the Lord would open the door to make this happen, we moved forward with the goal of Landmark families adopting 100 Campbell students and providing them with Christmas gifts based on his/her “wish lists”. To say that Landmark showed up is an understatement. All 100 students were adopted. The week before Christmas the front lobby of the school looked like Santa’s Workshop. We joyfully loaded the trailer four different times to deliver the gifts to Campbell.
While it may have looked different than in the past, in many ways this may have been the best Campbell Christmas ever. In a year deemed difficult to be out serving face to face, this was a beautiful picture of the Landmark family stepping up and being the hands and feet of Jesus to our local community. Our families used the time together to shop, wrap, and pray over the presents. It was truly a bright day in a year that had seen so much darkness. Light always overcomes the dark.
For those who participated in this special project, thank you! We were completely overwhelmed by the response of our Landmark family and words cannot express how grateful and appreciative we are to each of you for impacting the life of a child.
