Play Where Your Feet Are™

Cameron Dobbs, Class of 2017, recently visited Landmark and shared her story, passion, and wisdom with students during chapel. Cameron shared that Landmark Christian School’s rigorous course load, competitive athletics, and leadership-building courses clearly prepared her not only for life after high school but to succeed in all things. A quick glance at her resume shows her numerous accomplishments from ACC Network Color Commentator for the 2020 ACC Volleyball Championship, Sideline Reporter and Media Director for the 2021 Cal Ripken World Series broadcasted on Stadium, Iron Arrow Honor Society member (the highest honor one could attain at the University of Miami), Division I collegiate athlete, Division I collegiate coach, CNN featured “Difference Maker,” author, podcast host, speaker, business owner, nonprofit founder, Miami Hurricanes Event Host, and the list goes on.
Most importantly, Cameron shared that Landmark aims to prepare its students to impact the world for Jesus Christ. From chapels and Bible class to worshipping alongside teammates on the court before championship matches, Landmark taught her to have bold faith, stand firm in her beliefs, and spread God’s love wherever she goes. And she does just that.

Many of you may remember Cameron for her volleyball career which started when she was a young girl, she said she wanted to play like her older sister, Kelsey she grew up following her sister to training, practices, camps, and tournaments, seeing her pursue the sport at a high level. From championships, four-time Area Player of the Year, three-time State Player of the Year, AAU All-American, Under Armour All-American, top-five national club rankings, and more, her volleyball resume built quickly. At just fourteen years old, she received full scholarship offers to play at Division I schools. In the fall of 2015, she formally committed to the University of Miami to play volleyball for the Hurricanes and enjoyed a great college career there. In the fall of 2019, She suffered a career-ending injury, her third concussion within twelve months. After a heart-breaking six-month recovery to return to a fully-functioning human being again, she recentered her identity in Christ, instead of in her performance on the court, in the classroom, and in her career. She became an advocate for mental health and athletes’ lives off the court and has drafted a best practices document for the NCAA to put in place to protect medically retiring student-athletes.

Cameron has continued the conversation of her passions through her podcast, "Play Where Your Feet Are™". Whether it is the next generation or those who are walking beside or before me, I am building a bridge for them. The stories I tell are sermons to myself. They are daily reminders, constant affirmations, and repeatable lessons I am learning. I share my story to build others up, save them from pain, and lead them to Christ. God’s work in my life is nothing short of a miracle, and He deserves the glory.”

With her podcast and freelance sports reporting, she will continue to tell the stories of athletes’ performances on and off the field, highlighting their passions, personalities, and perseverance. Her speaking engagements and soon-to-be-published book will allow her to share God's work in her life.
This spring, she is looking forward to traveling across the country to speak to people of all ages, occupations, and genders, motivating them with Play Where Your Feet Are™, while also pursuing other sports broadcasting endeavors.

Cameron shares a special word for Landmark seniors - “So often we spend our days looking ahead at the next big thing. I’m the same way. "Can't wait" is at the top of my vocabulary. As great as it is to look forward to your future, it can be an exhausting cycle of losing the moment. Remember to Play Where Your Feet Are in the season you are in, in the position you are in, and even in the frustration you are in.” Paul said it best in 1 Thessalonians 5:16, “Be thankful in all circumstances.” God has a purpose for the position you are in. Don’t miss the opportunity to make a big impact where you are right now.
