Elementary School Music
K4 through fourth graders learn about God's wonderful gift of music. They study its important role in the Bible and the many ways God intended it not only to enrich our lives but to worship and praise Him both now and for eternity. The music room is a fun place where music is experienced through movement, singing, and playing instruments. In keeping with the National Standards for Music Education, students learn music fundamentals such as rhythm, melody, harmony, tone color, form, and expression. They are introduced to the works of great composers as well as music of all styles and cultures. Opera plots, Bible stories, and composers' lives come alive through various engaging activities, with a particular emphasis on American music and its role in our nation's history. A highlighted event for elementary music is the annual Veterans Day program. In fourth grade, students learn to play the soprano recorder through the award-winning "Recorder Karate" program, which prepares them for choir and band in upcoming grades.
